Luego de al menos dos días de estar offline, Skype restauró su sistema de la caída sufrida a nivel mundial
En el medio, y luego de varios años de ni siquiera tener una deficiencia en el servicio, se tejieron varias teorías del porqué de la caída, desde un ataque DoS a nivel mundial, hasta fallas en el código que permitían la caída progresiva de servidores de conección:

The PoC uses standard Skype client to call to a specific number. This call causes denial of service of current Skype server and forces Skype to reconnect to another server. The new server also “freezes” and so on … the entire network.

Desde Skype.com se pudo seguir el asunto, aunque siempre con la versión oficial como bandera:

Apologies for the delay, but we can now update you on the Skype sign-on issue. As we continue to work hard at resolving the problem, we wanted to dispel some of the concerns that you may have. The Skype system has not crashed or been victim of a cyber attack. We love our customers too much to let that happen. This problem occurred because of a deficiency in an algorithm within Skype networking software. This controls the interaction between the user’s own Skype client and the rest of the Skype network.

Personalmente se notó la ausencia. Cotidianamente me encuentro en varias llamadas/conferencias, todas por trabajo, y es ahora cuando caigo en cuenta en el peso y la importancia que tiene esta herramienta para muchos de nosotros (aunque no perdí el millón que perdió Ebay). Lo triste fue tener que recurrir al feo y “25.000 cosas para hacer menos conversar” messenger, que me hizo recordar lo mal implementada que está el voice-ip en este cliente (yahoo messenger nunca lo probé).

En conclusión. A más de uno le gustaría ver caer a Skype (o al menos ensuciarlo un poco), aunque se me ocurre que salvo encontrar alguna falla en el software (como en este caso?) va a estar complicado.
